Electric Cookers:

Energy Conservation Labeling Program Requirements for Electric Cookers
(Promulgated and in effect October 12, 2006)
1. The scope of application, energy efficiency test conditions and method, and energy efficiency value for Energy Label qualified electric cooker products shall meet the following requirements:
a. Scope: The qualified products shall be as defined in CNS 2518: Electric Cookers and shall include both direct heating type and indirect heating type electric cookers.
b. Test conditions and Test Method:
i) Environment conditions: The ambient temperature shall be at 25 ± 5℃. The distance between the wall and the sides, front and top of the product shall be at least 300 mm. The wind speed during testing shall be less than 0.5 m/s and the relative humidity shall be between 45% and 75%.
ii) Test voltage: The test voltage shall be within 110V ±2% or 220V ±1%, and the power consumption shall be expressed in unit of Wh.
iii) Test method for thermal efficiency: Fill the cooker’s inner container around 80% full with W1 kg of distilled water, and fill the outer container with W2 kg (around 0.05-0.1 kg) of distilled water (for direct heating cooker, no water is needed for the outer container). Place the thermometer at 10-30 mm above the bottom of inner container to measure the initial inner container water temperature and record as T1 (℃). Plug the cooker into the wall plug and switch the cooker to standard cook mode. Disconnect the power after the thermometer reading reaches 95℃, and record the power consumption as E (Wh). After the inner container water reaches the highest temperature, record the temperature as T2 (℃). Measure the weight of the inner container and record as M (kg). The cooker’s thermal efficiency can be calculated as follows:
η = 1.16 x (W1 + W2) x (T2 - T1)/ E x 100% + C x M x (T2 - T1 )/(3.6 x E ) x 100%
where:
η : thermal efficiency of electric cooker (%)
W1 : mass of distilled water (kg)
W2 : mass of distilled water added to the outer container (kg)
M : weight of inner container (kg)
E : measured power consumption (Wh)
T1 : initial distilled water temperature (℃)
T2 : highest distilled water temperature (℃)
C: specific heat of interior material (inner container) (kJ/kg.K)
c. Thermal efficiency value:
Type of cookerRated power consumption (W)Thermal efficiency (%)
Direct heating>= 60083
<60081
Indirect heating 80

2. Notes on product labeling:
a. The name and address of the label user shall be clearly displayed on the product or product packaging;
b. If the label user is an agent, the name and address of the product manufacturer shall also be clearly displayed on the product or product packaging;
c. The product’s thermal efficiency value shall be stated in the product catalog;
d. The product’s measured thermal efficiency value shall be calculated to integer with the first decimal place rounded-off.
