As Taiwan imports 97% of its energy requirements, it is necessary to improve energy efficiencies in order to increase the energy security and reduce energy-related carbon dioxide emissions. It is for this reason that the Energy Commission of MOEA decided to promote the voluntary Energy Label program in order to improve energy efficiencies and reduce greenhouse gases emissions. Promotional measures, tax incentives and subsidies are also in place to encourage both the public and private sectors to increase manufacturing and purchases of energy-labeled products.
