Electric Hot Water Pots:

Energy Conservation Labeling Program Requirements for Electrical Hot Water Pots
(Promulgated and in effect September 21, 2007)

I. The scope of application, energy consumption test method and energy consumption criteria for the electrical hot water pots (“products”) applying for Energy Label certification shall meet the following requirements:

(I) Scope
The applicable products shall be electrical hot water pots which meet the requirements of CNS-12625.

(II) Energy consumption test conditions and method
1. Ambient conditions: During testing, the ambient temperature shall be maintained at 25±3C. The distance between the wall and the sides, front and top of the product shall be at least 300 mm. The ambient wind speed shall be less than 0.5 m/s. The ambient relative humidity shall be less than 85%. And the input water temperature shall be between 25±5C.
2. Test voltage: The voltage fluctuations shall be less than 110V±2% or 220V±1%. The energy consumption for the product shall be expressed in units of kWh.
3. Test method for the 24-hr energy consumption E24 (kWh/day):
Fill the water to the level of rated capacity (V), which is about 80% full. Place the temperature sensor into the center of the pot, at the position of about 1/2 height. Set the temperature to the highest temperature for the keep-warm mode (For typical product this temperature is 98C, if the product only has one keep-warm temperature setting then uses this setting). Initiate the heating function to heat the water until the highest water temperature setting has been reached and the water pot enters the keep-warm mode. Measure the average water temperature when the product’s heating element turns on and off, and use the following equations for calculation:

E24 = 24/t × Et (1)
Est,24= 75/((Ti + Tf)/2 – Tamb) × E24 (2)

(V: rated capacity for the electrical hot water pot (L))

Ti : the average temperature where the heating element starts heating during the keep warm mode (C)
Tf : the average temperature where the heating element stops heating during the keep warm mode (C)
t: accumulated total time duration during the keep-warm mode (hr)
Et: accumulated total electricity consumed during time t (kWh)
E24: average electricity consumption during a 24-hr period under the keep-warm mode (kWh/day)
Est,24: Standardized electricity consumption (kWh/day) during a 24-hour period under the keep-warm mode. That is, the relative electricity consumption when the average water temperature and the ambient temperature has a difference of 75C.
Tamb: ambient temperature (C)

(III) Energy consumption criterion for electrical hot water pots
The standardized 24-hour energy consumption Est, 24 shall be no higher than the following energy consumption criterion Est,24, criterion for electrical hot water pots:

Est,24, criterion = 0.12 × V + 0.04 (V is in unit of L)

II. Notes on Energy Label labeling:
(I) The name and address of the label user shall be clearly displayed on the product or product packaging.
(II) If the label user is an agent, the name and address of the product manufacturer shall also be clearly displayed on the product or product packaging.
(III) The product’s energy consumption Est,24 shall be stated in the product catalog.
(IV) The product’s energy consumption Est,24 and energy consumption criterion Est,24 criterion shall be rounded to two decimal places.
